Black Women’s Policy Center
Pittsburgh is often lauded as among the most livable cities in the country. While this may be true for some, it is certainly not the case for Black women. Rochelle Jackson, a Black woman with decades of public policy experience, is well aware of the racial and gender inequities that Black women experience in Pittsburgh. She launched the Black Women’s Policy Center to change systems and policies to ensure that Black women don’t just survive but thrive.
Situating the Voices and Experiences of Black Women in Greater Pittsburgh
With a goal to ensure that future policy efforts align with what Black women identify as their most important needs, the Black Women’s Policy Center surveyed and held listening sessions with hundreds of Black women from the Greater Pittsburgh region. The subsequent report, “Situating the Voices and Experiences of Black Women in Greater Pittsburgh” highlights their voices, experiences, and priorities. In addition to centering the experiences of Black women in a variety of policy initiatives, the Black Women’s Policy Center also delivers advocacy bootcamp trainings to give women the tools they need to be effective advocates; provides support to single moms; and offers life skills training and coaching.
